The Experiments
In 2030, various governments were starting to forget about the horrors of the world wars, and were becoming blind to the atrocities they caused in the name of freeing citizens of foreign countries from political oppression. Many became paranoid, throwing up uneasy alliances in the hope of giving them a better position in the modern world, in the ongoing arms race.
The main culprits of this were Britain, trying hard to hold onto its former glory, the USA, clinging onto the top spot as the peak of civilisation, Japan, with technological advancements leaving other countries in the dust, China, with its work force of millions, and Russia, caught up as it always is in worldwide political strife.
No one knows who started the experiments. They were a natural progression from cloning, but it was a difficult field to break into. The creation of hybrid animals was an ongoing project for many years, funded by the government for reasons known only to them. Then, as success was beginning to shine through, the experiments changed. Scientists combined human and animal DNA, creating mutants with fur or claws, deformed faces and bodies, who could do nothing but lay there, vegetable-like, while tests were carried out, hoping on transforming the poor creatures into super-soldiers.
Nothing went well. For years, that was all that happened. Men and women, made from the finest DNA of various species, wasting away because people were too blind to see what was going on. Funding started to dry up, the governments looked into new avenues for creating weaponry.
Just as everyone was about to give up on it, a scientist, fed up of all the orthodox methods not working, got frustrated and used old tribal magic that had been passed down through the generations, to try and create what was never supposed to be made.
He succeeded in combining the DNA of a wolf and a human, but somehow managing to keep the two separate so that only with force of will could the being change from one form to another. The first werewolf had been created.
Once that key had been found, the floodgates opened again. Sorcerers, magicians, witches, all were secretly hired to help grow shape shifters, or transform adults into shape shifters. Around the world, thousands of men and women were made into hybrids of predators and humans, and many were trained for the day when they could join the army. They had immense strength, speed and stamina, and they healed faster than should have been possible.
Some went wrong, creating hideous mutants stuck between the two forms or humans with animalistic qualities, be it personality traits or a tail.
It was all going superbly until news leaked out. Someone told the media, and it shocked the headlines for weeks. This was not beneficial to those in power, who decided to close down the operations. They ordered the culling of the non-humans.
The mutants were not happy about this. Things had gone one step too far.

The War and the World
The experiments rebelled, using their strengths to escape from the vile prisons.
Many were killed. The others, thousands of them, took up arms against the human race and here started the Third World War. It ended badly, the world in ruins, with many casualties on both sides. There were no winners. It was true that after the use of nuclear weaponry a higher percentage of mutants than pure humans survived, but the world was in such ruin that it didn't make much difference either way.
The economy collapsed and people reverted to trading for things rather than buying them. Housing was derelict. Crime lords rose and fell. Some banded together to build kingdoms for themselves out of the ruins of their homes, but for most, there was no longer civilisation, there was just survival. Fighting for territory and food, fighting for survival, fighting to put one foot in front of the other day after day. Anything could happen. Anything did happen.
Magic spurted out in the unlikeliest of places, in humans and mutants alike. In the mutants it often eased their torn natures and made them one or the other, with the ability to change between the two. Some it gave powers to - the control of fire, or water, or the ability to make objects move without touching them.

That's the setting. It's your choice what you do with it. Build up an empire, bring one down. Make a life for yourself, throw one away. There's no overruling plotline as such, just wherever your imagination takes you.[/center]
Thanks for reading (if you managed to get down to the bottom )
This is a brand new rp and so far I don't have any members but myself. I'd be grateful if you gave it a chance to see if it ends up going anywhere, and if it hasn't taken off in a month or so, you could reevaluate.
