The Realm of Liadith is a fairly new kingdom in terms of how long it had been a free nation. Liadith was once part of Selenidor. Selenidor is a vast kingdom that had swallowed up Liadith in a deep, bloodthirsty reign that had lasted over 100 years. Selenidor is a very military-based kingdom, which made it easily the most powerful kingdom of that time.
Selenidor is not tolerant of magic or of elves. Any elf or person of elvish heritage was ordered back to Nuviel. People of magic were closely watched and greeted with suspicion and distrust.
They were treated as lepers and outcasts. Most people of magic kept it a secret. This fear and secrecy made it very difficult to trust anyone. It was difficult for people of magic to expand their skills as their trade was considered taboo. If they were lucky, they had someone in their family that could teach them. If not, any petty skill they had learned on their own never became anything more than that. As a result many Mages were not very strong. But it wasn't long before those Mages learned from someone that was the best Mage of the time, Farius Liadith.
Farius Liadith was a simple Merchant by day, underground magic instructor by night. Farius was handsome and charming which helped him greatly in selling his items but he used his charms and his stand to recruit. He had one mission: Freedom. More than anything he wanted his freedom. Mages would never be allowed to follow their full potential in Selenidor and while they could escape to Nuviel he felt it was a cowardly thing to do. To flee instead of fight for something that was deserved. And fought he did. He had learned ways of magic from his father. With enough Mages, they could gain their freedom, but first he had to find them and teach them. It took Farius about two years to gain enough support to rebel against Selenidor. It took even longer than that to gain everyone's trust enough to teach them magic.
Farius Liadith and about 200 other Mages of various strengths banded together and fought for their freedom. Farius was named as the king of the new nation Liadith.
Liadith may not have had brute strength--it had something better: magic. Thus Liadith gained its right to become a free nation, one that welcomed elves and mages alike.
Though Liadith has been liberated from the tyrannical Selenidorian rule, many years have passed since Farius's fight for freedom. Today, Farius's grandson, Barnibus, is king, and he does not appear to have the strength his grandfather had. Now an old man, Barnibus has neglected his duties as king and has become a recluse inside his great castle. Though the elves are allowed to come and go freely from their forest city of Nuviel, much of the old racism still exists and many elves have been discriminated against in their efforts to live in a human city. The mages that were once so powerful have become disorganized, and many have left the city to peruse their studies elsewhere. The people are short of faith, and many of the beautiful cathedrals stand empty. The city's militia has fallen into lethargy and their swords and armor is covered with rust. While the rich continue to expand their lands and hordes of gold, the poor fall further and further into destitution.
Liadith is in need of heroes to stand up and begin to repair the neglect that Liadtih has suffered. Strong individuals are needed who are willing to work together to put this once great city back on its feet and restore it to the dream that Farius always had: a City of Freedom.
